Success Is In the BHAG!
Posted Under: Uncategorized
Okay, you’re right, BHAG is pronounced bee-hag, but it still means Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal!
Successful organizations often have leaders who develop “impossible dreams” that represent a huge shift from the current level of performance to a new, higher level. Jim Collins called these dreams “BHAGS” (Big Hairy Audacious Goals) in his book Built to Last. Dreaming an impossible dream should have at least some small chance of succeeding to be motivational, but achieving it should require hard work, major breakthroughs and consistent team effort.
Without such a formal, enterprise-wide BIG GOAL, it is only too easy for people to start believing that they are ONLY working for the corporate bottom-line, or for ‘That Jerk in the Head Office’…
Whereas when people HAVE a BHAG that they buy into, they are consistently transformed IN TERMS OF that greater goal, they consistently strive more whole-heartedly and frequently hit major streaks of creative genius from the maintenance and cleanup staff all the way to the chrome-domes in the glass building! They’re players in a BIG game, and it charges them up for the better!
What Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal would YOU want to be working toward, in addition to a $7,fig,ure income?
